The new Aurora collection, to discover ancient maps, begins in the city of Alexandria in Egypt, home of the grandiose library, and where around 150 A.D. the geographer Claudio Tolomeo, drew the first geographical map of the known world, using grid of geometric lines, corresponding to latitude and longitude.
When Tolomeo's work appeared for the first time in Europe it revolutionized continental cartography. The traditional arrangement of medieval maps with east at the top (from which the term orientation derives) was replaced by the north-south axis, to which the modern cartographic grid still in use today was added.
Aurora created for this collection new essential pen details: an armillary head, an observation instrument for explorers to orient themselves through the stars. A new bottom was designed symbolizing the rose of wind a driving tool of ancient maps. The clip, with the rings, reflect the movement of the sea and navigation.

Aurora Ancient Maps Tolomeo features blue Auroloide hand-worked and polished sterling silver metallic elements. It is equipped with a 18k gold nib with ebonite feed and fills ink via a piston filler mechanism. Limited edition to 680 pieces worldwide.
